We’re sure you still have some questions about the programme so check out our FAQ for more information about the questions we are often asked by our students. If you cannot find the answer to your question, then contact Meghan, she will be happy to assist you.
Enrollment / Eligibility
Of course, we can accept students of all nationalities on this programme except for those in possession of US citizenship. This is due to the fact that the scholarship is awarded to international students only.
Most American universities (unlike British universities) will require students to provide a health certificate and an updated immunisation record before arriving on campus. As each university has its own requirements, Go Campus is unable to provide you with a full list of vaccines required in advance. Your university will send this to you upon acceptance of your application. However, it is likely that the following vaccines will be required:
- MMR
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio and Pertussis (Whooping Cough)
- Meningitis (ACWY)
- Covid-19
Universities could also request that students are vaccinated against the following:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B
- Meningococcal
- HPV
- Chicken Pox (if you haven’t had it before)
We would recommend checking to see if your vaccination record is up to date before heading to the United States as any vaccines in the USA will be paid for out of pocket.
You can find this record either in your ‘red book’ or ask at your doctor’s surgery for a list of vaccines you have received since being a patient there.
- You must have A levels or an equivalent post-secondary education qualification such as a BTEC. College and Sixth-Form students may apply to our programme during their final year of A levels.
- We require an average GPA of 2.0-2.5 (roughly the equivalent of 2:2 Bachelor’s Degree, B grade in A ‘Level/GCSE, or a Merit in BTEC)
- You can participate in this programme if you are aged between 17 and 28.
- Eligibility to the Master’s programme is dependent on you obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
- If you fit these criteria, you can apply for the programme
PIE Campus will calculate your GPA for you but to have a better idea you can find a handy conversion table under the education tab.
Absolutely. Our programme is well-suited for students wishing to add a study abroad year into their studies. Before applying to the programme, students should contact their home university to see if the Go Campus programme is compatible with their degree.
Although we encourage studying for the entirety of the 4-year Bachelor’s programme in the United States, it’s possible to study for just one year. However, for those on the placement year programme, you will start in the first year of the Bachelor’s Degree directly and will not be able to apply as a transfer student.
No, the SAT and GMAT are fully waived for students applying to our schools
English test results (TOEFL IBT, IELTS or in some cases, Duolingo) will be needed for students coming from a non-anglophone country. Those with English as a first language are exempt from passing the English test upon submissions of proof (e.g. British passport).
Go Campus requires all students to do one interview with a member of the team once we receive your completed application. Some schools may also invite you to an additional interview (on-line) prior to sending out your acceptance letter.
You may start your studies in August for the Fall semester or January for the Spring semester.
Fewer students apply for this period as it doesn’t follow the typical European school year so fewer students will be in the Orientation allowing for closer relationships with professors and more personalised Orientation.
It allows you to spend a semester working in your home country to put money on the side to help pay for your studies.
This changes nothing in terms of quality of education and you will not be a semester behind if you choose to study in January as each semester is independent from the other .
- You can attend one of our monthly Webinar. Click here to sign up.
- We also hold regular webinars with partner schools. Find out more information here.
- Find out more from other participants on our social media or by reading our articles and testimonials as well.
Absolutely! There is no restriction to the number of students we can send to our partner universities so you can all apply to the same school together. However, each application will be considered separately based on admission criteria. The university will therefore decide whether to accept all applications or not.
Each university has different English language requirements. The English test results vary
- TOEFL IBT between 60 and 80
- IELTS between 5,5 and 6,5
- Duolingo (when appliable) between 95 and 120
If a student does not obtain the score required, they can either resit the test or start with an on-campus ESL (English Second Language) programme
Students that don’t wish to sit an English test, and do not possess proof of English proficiency (see Are there any entrance exams, interviews, or additional tests to join an American University?) will be automatically enrolled in the ESL programme.
ESL or English as a Second Language is a semester-long programme for students that do not achieve a sufficient score in the English test or choose not to sit an English test. ESL allows us to open the Go Campus programme to all students no matter their English levels.
Students in the ESL programme will study intensive English classes only during that period. There are also some restrictions, such as not being able to play for a school sports team or not being able to work on campus during this programme. Once the programme is complete and the student can provide evidence of the required English test score, they can integrate classes in the area of study of their choice.
Sometimes this programme can last up to one year, depending on the participant’s level of English and progress made in the classes.
Costs
This is where the guaranteed scholarships come in! The grand total of an American university may seem frightening at first, but when you partner with Go Campus, we guarantee an annual scholarship, which covers up to 60% of your tuition.
- After scholarships, our programmes begin at around 14,000 USD (tuition, room and board).
- The average annual cost with scholarships at our partner universities is around 18,000 USD/ 20,000 USD.
- One-time Go Campus enrolment fee (3,070 USD)
- Health insurance
- Textbooks : Go Campus Recommendation: try before you buy! Don’t buy all the books on the reading list before arriving to save money and space in your suitcase. Once on campus, you can see which books you really need before buying them second-hand
- Sports team membership/extra-curricular activities
- Flights and travel expenses
- On-campus housing during Christmas/summer breaks
- Personal expenses, etc.
Go Campus estimates that personal expenses could reach up to roughly 1 000 USD/school year.
No. The enrolment and application fees (3 070 EUR) are a one-time fee, regardless of the duration of your studies.
Our partner schools have dedicated scholarship funds for international students like yourself.
These scholarships are not means-based, so are not linked to parental income like student loans often are, and are available to you because you are an international student.
American universities want international students on their campuses in order to promote cultural diversity and to make their campus more attractive to American students. Our partner schools appreciate learning more about different education systems and learning more about you.
The United States has a long tradition of scholarships so all schools will have additional funds set aside for future prospects.
The scholarship is automatically deducted from the invoice provided by the university each semester, whether you stay for one year or four years.
However, the university can remove your scholarship if you do not maintain the GPA required or you do not turn up to class.
Visa
The F1 visa is a legal requirement for all persons wishing to study at an American higher educational institution. This visa will be valid for the full duration of your studies (you may be asked to renew your visa about 20 months in). An ESTA is a tourist waiver visa allowing you to holiday in the USA for a maximum of 90 days per year, it is therefore not accepted by Immigration and Customs.
You will not need to request an ESTA. The F1 visa will be sufficient.
The visa costs 350 USD for the SEVIS fees and 185 USD for the F1 visa.
Go Campus helps you to obtain the necessary documents to make your visa request
The University will send you the I20 document required for your visa upon acceptance on the programme
The participant will book an appointment at the Embassy in their home country/country of residence and will need to go to this appointment in order for the visa to be validated.
Your visa remains valid if you are still enrolled in school. If you leave the country during the school year/during the school holidays, a member of the International Student Centre must sign your I20 in order to allow you re-entry into the United States
If you finish your programme and are no longer enrolled in the university, your visa will no longer be valid (even if the dates are still good).
University / Classes
Go Campus and their representative, PIE, have years of experience in the field of international student mobility. We also provide a service that facilitates the whole process from A-Z, as well as provide you with guaranteed financial aid without you having to get involved in tricky negotiations with each university that you’re interested in.
Go Campus does not currently work with Ivy League schools. Mostly due to not having access to more interesting student scholarship options. However, that does not mean we are offering bad universities.
Whilst university rankings are not part of our criteria for choosing a school (we focus more on reputation, cost, and quality of teaching), you are able to check school rankings once you receive your Scholarship Report if you so wish. Our main criteria is whether the schools we provide you are good value-for-money in terms of the quality of education you will receive at the more affordable price.
If you choose to stay for the full duration of your Bachelor’s degree or further, an American diploma will still be highly considered by most international companies when you apply for graduate roles regardless of whether it comes from an Ivy League school or not.
All students receive a list with 12 partner universities when they apply to give you an idea of the schools we offer. From this list, you can make a pre-choice. You can also find a copy of this list here.
You may apply for this programme with an idea in mind for what you want, or you may be going in blind hoping to find something that interests you along the way. In any case, the reasons for choosing a university are personal to each individual and we recommend you use the same criteria that you would have used if you were choosing a British university. Many students will specify important information that they would like us to consider when providing them with schools. These could include:
- Geographic location
- Financial cost
- Prestige
- Proposed fields of study
- Size of the institution
- Social factors
Go Campus will ask you to make note of the factors that are the most important to you in order to provide you with a Scholarship Report that most fits with your requirements.
Go Campus handles pre-departure only. Once you have arrived in the United States, students are required to demonstrate independence and autonomy. Should concerns arise, students must contact their individual universities, not Go Campus.
- We handle your application individually and work with you to find the best fit, in terms of budget, location and degree (amongst other criteria).
- We take your application and present it to multiple universities in our network, thus saving you time in preparing several applications at once.
- We provide you with a list of universities that correspond as much as possible to your requirements and help you with your final decision.
- We provide you with a scholarship, which covers up to 60% of your overall tuition.
- We walk you through the administrative and admission processes, including the visa application, insurance, transportation, etc., as well as organise a pre-departure meeting to prepare you for this experience
Go Campus universities offer hundreds of degree programmes: business, economics, statistics, biology, nursing, journalism, international relations, art, theatre, dance, political science, etc.
We discourage studying law, engineering and medicine because if you plan to return to your home country upon completion of your studies, you may need to have certain equivalences or to pass certain tests, in order to secure a job and practice. For example, studying law in the USA will mostly be linked to American law rather than British or European law which could be complicated if you wish to practice law in Europe once you have graduated.
You will take classes relating to your major as well as general education courses, which provide a basic foundation of knowledge. These classes are compulsory, and you will receive a list of options upon enrolment.
Yes. All Go Campus universities offer a variety of extracurricular activities.
American universities pride themselves on having a wide array of clubs to choose from: intramural sports teams, art club, film club, Greek fraternities and sororities, anime club, chess club etc.
You will have the opportunity to either continue an activity you started in your home coutry or to try something new.
Go Campus recommends getting involved in extracurricular activities to facilitate your integration. If you can’t find the club or activity for you, you can always see about starting your own!
Go Campus works directly with you to see what is possible in regards to your application (grades, budget, localisation etc.).
While it is rare to receive a refusal, we can never guarantee acceptance into a school as the final decision is always down to the university itself, that being said we will offer you schools that are very likely to accept your applications.
In the case of a refusal from a school, we will explain to you the reason and then help you re-apply to your second-choice school.
Go Campus works with schools that fit our specific criteria : good reputation, positive student experiences, cost and of course, quality of teaching
Our main criteria is whether the schools we offer are good value-for-money in terms of the quality of education you will receive at the more affordable price.
What next ?
- With Go Campus, you’re able to study for between one semester and four years.
- The Master’s Programme offered through PIE Campus is for 2 years minimum.
- We do not offer a PhD programme
Health insurance is compulsory! As you may know, medical expenses are extremely high in the USA and without a health insurance policy you can not only be massively out of pocket after one visit to the doctor’s surgery, but the university can also refuse to accept you.
Some universities may impose insurance plans, often between 1,750 USD and 2,800 USD per year. Whilst others may be more lenient and allow you to choose your own policy if it fits in with their minimum requirements.
Go Campus also offers an insurance plan, at an annual cost of 850 EUR, which is accepted by some universities. These will be indicated to you upon the release of your personalised Scholarship Report.
If your university requires you to purchase its insurance, you are not required to purchase Go Campus insurance.
Go Campus does not have access to insurance information relating to each university. Once you have been accepted by your school, you can ask them for more detailed information about their insurance policy.
In the USA you can either pay upfront for your medical procedure and be reimbursed or choose to go to a surgery or hospital that is linked to your insurance provider so as not to pay anything upfront. In either case, an insurance dossier will need to be opened and sent to your provider so that everything remains above board.
Upon graduation from an American university, you will have the opportunity to prolong your stay in the United States for one year through the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme.
Thanks to OPT, you may obtain a visa allowing you to work on American territory in a field relating to your major for one year following graduation.
If you graduate with a degree in the STEM field, you are eligible to apply for a 2-year extension to your F-1 visa for the OPT programme.
